Dental Implants

Dental Implants are biocompatible titanium restoration that replaces the roots of the missing tooth. It is a treatment that helps to restore the functionality of the tooth. At Twin Cities Dental, the dentist performs Implants for patients which offer solid and secure support to the artificial tooth.

What are the types of Implants?

Dentists offer two major types of dental implant procedures.

Endosteal: Implants that are placed inside the jawbone are referred to as Endosteal Implants.

Subperiosteal: It is a type of Implant that is inserted above or under the gums.

Who is a candidate for Dental Implants?

Patients who have suffered tooth loss are candidates for Dental Implants if they have healthy bone structure. The patient should not have chronic health conditions as it may cause a reverse effect on the success of the Implant procedure. Age is not a criterion for the treatment if the patient possesses good dental health.

Benefits of Implants

  • Implants aesthetically enhance the appearance of the patient.
  • Dental Implants correct speech impairments caused by tooth loss.
  • BIte conditions like overbite and underbite can be corrected through the Implant procedure.
  • It provides better comfort to the patient than other dental restorations.
  • Dental Implants promote the overall dental hygiene of the patient.

What Is the Procedure for Dental Implant Placement?

Dental implant placement requires multiple appointments at the dentistry for completion. The dentist performs a complete dental checkup of the patient to analyze if they are the right candidate for the treatment. Digital Imaging systems help to provide better insight into the area in treatment. It also helps the dentist to plan the treatment for the patient.

The treatment site is numbed with anesthesia and an incision is made in the gums. The titanium implant is placed into the jawbone and the incision is stitched. It should heal completely before the following procedure of dental implant. The implant merges within the jaw within 6 to 12 weeks.   An abutment is placed on the implant in the subsequent appointment. An artificial tooth is mounted on the abutment and cemented to provide a functional tooth to the patient.
